Thammasat University
Founded in 1934, the Thammasat University stands as Thailand’s second oldest University and is especially well-known for it’s progressive stance. The credo of the TU’s founder, Prof. Dr. Pridi Banomyong, was to promote, and encourage professional expertise alongside critical thinking skills, creativity and self-reliance of the young generation.
Following this tradition, the Faculty of Liberal Arts at TU’s Rangsit Campus imparts language and cultures of German-speaking countries. Furthermore, this knowledge is strengthened and put into practice in a range of theater- and course projects, eg. via a Skype-Tandem project in cooperation with the Thai Studies program at the University of Hamburg. In addition to the wide scope of our curricular and extra-curricular activities, the self-access learning-center known as „German Center“ provides space and media for students to work independently.
The Faculty of Liberal Arts offers additional German language courses for the general public, while courses supplied by CPG courses are specifically designed for learners from the Department of Law.
As of 2016, there are 12 lecturers at TU’s German Section, including 4 native speakers, teaching about 70 BA-students. Our students are free to focus on either literature and culture, translation or commercial German language studies.
